Free program in ENGLISH

This class introduces students to the art exhibits at the Queens Museum through the study of English. We will focus on developing listening, speaking, reading and writing skills through art. Students from various backgrounds will form a community of English learners. The goal of the class is to help students to improve their social and intercultural communication skills through art.

We will use the work of Zhang Hongtu, a China born artist who lives in Queens and who mixes ancient Chinese and western art influences in his paintings, drawings and installations.  We will also examine the work of three artists (Meredith James, Kameelah Rasheed and Casey Tang) that use different materials to explore ideas around the creation of a home and ways we experience and interact with the world.

Pam Cardwell  is an artist and a Fulbright fellow to the Republic of Georgia  and Armenia. She received an MFA from the University of Pennsylvania. She has taught fine arts classes in Turkey where she traveled extensively. She will be attending an artist’s residency at the Joan Mitchell Foundation Center in New Orleans in the fall of 2015.  Currently, she teaches as an adjunct professor at SUNY.
