Collective Storytelling. Week 1

In the first class we talked about the importance of working in a collective manner, to be able to think beyond our contributions and interact with the other participant’s ideas, in order to reach a common goal. The best example of this could be the reconstruction of the Chartres Cathedral, in France that as today nobody knows who rebuild it after burnt to ashes or the clip we watched from Juan’s documentary in the Amazons. In both, people decided to work together and rebuild their temples.

We had an amazing group, with a great variety of backgrounds and interests, there will be a real chance for sharing and learning. We want to encourage participants to go beyond their comfort zone, and be open to a creative and personal exchange. We went thought our timeline, share some examples, and references and set the rules of the class.

“Reality can be entered through the main door or
it can be slipped into through a window,
which is much more fun.”
Gianni Rodari
The Grammar Of Fantasy: An Introduction To The Art Of Inventing

During this workshop we will be using images, words and the experiences of our bodies to try different ways of storytelling. We want to go beyond the idea, that a video is a series of images with music playing along. This workshop stresses the power and importance of language, as one tool we have, to construct and make sense of reality. Let your intuition take some responsibility in the act of creation.

The first assignment is to share a photo by email to a fellow participant.  He/she will respond with another photo.
The second assignment is to start writing your weather journal.
