Collective Storytelling Workshop. Week 3

George Emilio Sanchez, came to our class and gave us some exercises on Augusto Boal theater techiques. Boal’s work is useful in order to create and develop a sense of empathy, presence and it is so immediate, that the participants usually experience a series of complex discoveries on the spot. Some of the exercises we did are used to build trust in a team and the workshop is so useful for organizers, activists, artists and whoever is interested in engaging with social interaction. George will be back with more exercises from Theater of the Oppressed during this workshop.

On the second part, Juan did an overall view of Wevideo and how to set up an account within the class. We saw  the differences in projects:  a personal, collaborative and shared project. We are mainly working on collaborative projects, so we can work together on a video sequence and share media.

In the last part, we all practiced some collective poetry.  After reading a Nicanor Parra poem, I Take Back Everything I’ve Said, and thinking about the frustration of the artist that might happen as a consequence of the impossibility of achieving the goal of the artwork, we went on writing. Using some surrealist techniques, the class wrote a series of antipoems. It was so fun to see the way in which words somehow find a way to work together and our imaginations starts to work with that stimuli.

Ink on paper will tell more stories
Tickle me, hug me, kiss me
It is wonderful to come to the class
I will close a door
Many kids are playing balls in the park
And I said ” No thank you”, you replied “Why not?”

Tonight is the night when I shall dream of beauty.
