Out of Doors – MoMA

On June 8, 2013, the students from our Optical Illusions and Collage class went on a field trip to MoMA. As a new intern for the program, it was my first experience with the students. It was a great experience to see them share their thoughts and what they have learnt about Op Art from their teacher.

At MoMA, we began by looking at the exhibition Abstract Generation: Now in Print. The exhibition features artistic movements from Suprematism, to Constructivism, to Abstract Expressionism and Op Art, and we especially focused on Op Art. While looking at Op Art works, we discussed how the works have movement to them, and how they create optical illusions. We also figured out that most Op Art played with colors and patterns in playful ways. We also went on to other floors and exhibitions to see works that create optical illusions.

It was great to look and learn about Op Art and get to know people from QMA. They are friendly and welcoming, and it made me feel like joining the next field trip in the future.
