MEMORY, HISTORY IN ZINES AND ARCHIVES – Week 4

In our last class, students continued to work on their books and zines to add more narrative and textural detail to their publications. The students were at were at work on great pieces such as the story of the cultural revolution and the history of immigration.
One exciting portion of the class was the critique. During the critique, each student presented their publication, their ideas for the future pages, and specific areas where they want more support. Then their peers provided warm feedback (positive notes and affirmation) and cool feedback (comments that challenged the artist to think about other creative routes to take with the publication). Using that feedback, students went back to work to incorporate some of the ideas they heard.
It was a great class and it was exciting to hear students talk about their work in such a deeply connected and meta-cognitive manner.
