Watercolor Painting and English at Queens Museum  Class 2: Portraits and Simple Present  Saturday, September 28, 2019    TOPIC: Watercolor painting, describing self, family, and friends  LEVEL: Mixed  TIME: 2 hours (2 PM-4 PM)  SKILLS: L, S, W    OBJECTIVES:     1. At the end of the class, students will be able to describe themselves and  friends/family members using adjectives and the simple present.  2. Students will create a small watercolor painting of themselves or another person.    Key Phrases/Vocab: I am, She/He is, I like, He/She likes, I have, He/She has, I live, He/She  lives    Grammatical Patterns: simple present    MATERIALS:    Supplies provided for instructor:   1. Laptop   2. Projector     Supplies provided for each student:   1. Pencil with eraser  2. Dry watercolor pan set   3. Plastic palette   4. 2-4 brushes of various sizes   5. Paper Towels   6. Can or jar for water   7. Several pieces of thick 9 x 12 watercolor paper OR a 9 x 12 watercolor block  8. Magazine images of faces for students who haven’t brought photos
Introduction 2-2:10  Introduce myself in English and Spanish with slides of my work. Divide up students who have  finished still life and those who have not. Tell them they have 20 mins to finish before we move  on. Pick up homework!    Engage 2:10-2:15  Hand out drawings to wrong ppl—they have to introduce person who painted it.    Study 2:15-2:35  Those who have finished–vocab worksheet on items in still life and body parts.    Study 2:35-2:45  Go over body parts as a class.    Study 2:45-3  Go over basics of simple present. Draw attention to “s” pronunciation in third person singular.  I am  She/He/It is  You are  We are  They are    I have  She/He/It has  You have  We have  They have    I like  She/He/It likes  You like   We like  They like    I live  She/He/It lives  You live  We live  They live  Engage 3-3:05  Ask students to go around and introduce themselves and say one fact about themself and one  fact about the person in the picture they have brought using the following format (project on  screen):    I am (Jennifer).  I like (art).  This is (Blanca).  She has (brown hair)  She lives (in New York).    Draw “S” on board and point to it as students go around if they are dropping the final “s”    Study 3:05-4  Painting! Hand out form for students to ask 5 questions about their partner & fill out sheet.  LOOKING AHEAD:  Class 3: Portait + Present tense (action verbs + using compound verbs “I like to draw”))  Starting Warm up activity: Find Someone who using facts from last class.

Watercolor Painting and English, Class 4: Portraits and Simple Present II  Saturday, September 28, 2019    TOPIC: Watercolor painting, describing self, family, and friends    OBJECTIVES:   1. At the end of the class, students will be able to describe themselves and  friends/family members using adjectives and the simple present.  2.
