NNY Intro to Printmaking – Week 6 | QUEENS MUSEUM ▪ New New Yorkers

DIRECT-TRACE DRAWING – January 10th, 2023.

As mentioned, we got to the end of the Intro to Printmaking Workshops series. It was a delight having all of you in this class. Everyone developed a particular way of printing through the choices made during these six sessions. Our instructor gave us a set of tools and skills that we put together to discover new ways of making art.
Using what we have learned in previous sessions, we spent part of the class experimenting with Monotypes using stencils. Also, our instructor taught us a new way of making Monotypes called Direct-Trace Drawing. For this technique, we used plexiglass plates instead of gel plates. Along
with the explanation, Michelle showed the book: “Prints and Drawings of Käthe Kollwitz,” Selected and introduced by Carl Zigrosser – 83 Illustrations. And Guido gave us a fascinating historical frame in which these drawings/prints were made.
Towards the end of the class, we gather to have a moment to share some snacks and reinforce the value of being a community: The New New Yorkers Community!

Como se mencionó anteriormente, llegamos al final de la serie de Talleres de Introducción al Grabado. Fue un placer tenerles en esta clase. Cada participante desarrolló una forma muy particular de imprimir gracias a las decisiones tomadas durante estas 6 sesiones. Nuestra instructora nos mostró una serie de técnicas y herramientas con las cuales experimentamos
para descubrir nuevas formas de hacer arte.

Usando lo que habíamos aprendido en sesiones anteriores, pasamos gran parte de la clase experimentando con Monotipos usando plantillas. Además, nuestra instructora nos enseñó una nueva forma de hacer Monotipos, llamada Direct-Trace Drawing. Para esta técnica utilizamos placas de plexiglás en lugar de placas de gel. Mientras explicaba esta nueva técnica, Michelle nos mostró el libro: “Prints and Drawings of Käthe Kollowitz” Selected and introduced by Carl Zigrosser – 83 Illustrations. Y Guido nos dio el marco histórico en el que se hicieron estos dibujos/grabados.
Hacia el final de la clase nos reunimos para compartir algunos pasabocas y reforzar el valor de ser una comunidad: ¡La comunidad de New New Yorkers!
