En nuestra última sesión visitamos el Museo de Queens. Muchos de los/as participantes ya habían visitado antes, pero ninguno/a había visto la más reciente exhibición l, Queens International, la exhibición grupal bianual que le toma el pulso al arte contemporáneo que se está produciendo por todo el condado de Queens.
Presentando la obra de 43 artistas, la actual versión se titula Volúmenes. Los/Las participantes tuvieron mucha curiosidad y estuvieron muy interesados/as durante la visita guiada, viendo muchas maneras diferentes de hacer arte, algunas basadas en prácticas tradicionales como pintura y escultura, y otras que incorporan nuevos materiales, técnicas o metodologías.
La visita también incluyó paradas en la colección permanente del museo: el modelo a escala del abastecimiento de agua para Nueva York, el Panorama de la ciudad, y la colección Tiffany.
Todos/as los/las participantes estuvieron muy contentos de ver el uso y aplicación de técnicas para crear patrones en muchas de las obras de arte y también en la instalación de muchas de ellas.
Después de la exhaustiva presentación, nos despedimos y saludamos por fiestas con la esperanza de volver a encontrarnos en otro curso de New New Yorkers.
On our last session we visited the Queens Museum. While many of the participants had visited before, none had seen the most recent exhibition, Queens International, the biennial group show that takes the pulse of contemporary art being made throughout the borough of Queens.
Presenting the work of 43 artists, the current iteration is titled Volumes. The participants were very curious and engaged in the guided visit, seeing many different approaches to art making, some grounded in traditional practices like painting and sculpture, and some incorporating new materials, techniques or methodologies.
The visit also included stops in the permanent collection of the museum: the Watershed model, the Panorama, and the Tiffany collection.
All of the participants were quite content to see the use and application of pattern making techniques to many artworks and also in the installation of many of them.
After the thorough presentation, we all said our goodbyes and happy holidays with the hope of getting together again for another New New Yorkers course.
