This week, we continued to make book cover and back cover for our artists’ books.  I also introduced two new artists, Shahzia Sikander and Marcel Dzama, who use watercolor and gouache as a primary medium for their art.  Sikander is known for decontextualizing Indo-Persian miniature paintings, transforming its narrative to reflect contemporary subjects.  Dzama creates a dreamscape filled with fantastical interactions between, human, animals and other creatures, to showcase a world that embodies violence, chaos, but also beauty.  Both artists use watercolor in a more controlled manner, making their work look more illustrational.  We can seek to paint part of our works with smaller brushes to add more details to our paintings.
