Week 1: Basic Line Exercise with Gradation and Introduction of Simple Technique
Introduction of material
-‘The Four Best Friends of Scholar”- Paper, Brush, Ink stick, Grinding stone
Exercise lines
-Student will learn a basic traditional technique of using a brush and mixing ink with water
-‘Play’ with a brush-horizontal, vertical and circular lines
Introduction of simple technique
-Instructor will demonstrate how to draw a rock, a tree, mountain, and waterfall, which are basic elements of
landscape painting, and then students can utilize these vocabulary by combining them with Four Gentlemen
Drawing.
Material: rice paper, liquid ink, Asian brush, white fleece (brown paper), water container, paper towel
Goal of the day:
-Get used to the materials
-Exercise line and practice simple elements by imitating instructor’s demonstration
Plan what I like to draw for the art journal (homework) based on elements that we were introduced today
